Telepathy
Telepathy is the direct communion of mind with mind, thought reaching thought without the channels of the senses. The word was coined by Frederic Myers, who mapped the subliminal self that lies beneath the ordinary threshold of awareness, and it became a central thread of psychical research, the silent transmission of feeling, image, and intention across distance. It speaks to an old intuition: that minds are not sealed islands but openings onto a shared field.
In this vision the boundary of the skull is not the boundary of the self. The bond between mother and child, the felt gaze, the call answered before it is spoken, are read as ripples of a deeper connection. On the Atlas of mind, telepathy marks the territory where consciousness overflows the individual and touches another directly.
In their words
Of thoughts, feelings, etc., lying beneath the ordinary threshold (limen) of consciousness, as opposed to supraliminal, lying above the threshold.
We venture to introduce the words Telaesthesia and Telepathy to cover all cases of impression received at a distance without the normal operation of the recognised sense organs.
We have often heard it said that thoughts are things, and there are many among us who are persuaded of its truth.
