Spirit
Spirit is the formless, animating breath of life — the divine essence that gives life to all things and the part of you that is one with its source. Where soul names your individual eternal nature, spirit names the universal life flowing through you, the same breath that moves through everything. It is invisible yet utterly real, the master that wields imagination and will and shapes the plastic stuff of matter. To live by spirit is to live from the deepest and freest part of yourself.

The mystics and metaphysicians treat spirit as both the wellspring and the worker. Emerson's Over-Soul is the one spirit in which all particular beings are contained; Paracelsus names spirit the master and imagination its tool; the New Thought teachers describe a Spiritual Power of the universe to which faith couples us directly. Whether breathed as the inner light of the contemplatives or as the creative force of the metaphysicians, spirit is the living current that joins the self to the All.
