Purpose

Purpose is the single aim that gathers a scattered life into a beam. Where the mind drifts, nothing forms; where one definite intention is held with faith, the whole of a person organizes around it. The success teachers made this the first law: choose one major aim, write it down, read it daily, and let every smaller decision bend toward it. A purpose clearly fixed becomes a magnet, drawing means, allies, and opportunity that the aimless never see.

But purpose runs deeper than achievement. It is the felt sense that your life is for something, that you carry a contribution only you can make. The seeker discovers it less by inventing than by listening, finding the place where your gladness meets a genuine need. Held lightly and steadily, definiteness of purpose turns desire into design and design into demonstration. To live on purpose is to stop being moved by every passing current and to become, instead, a cause.
