Symbols and the unseen

Psi

Psi is the collective name for the faculties that seem to reach beyond the recognised senses: telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and the mind's apparent action upon the world. J. B. Rhine and the laboratory tradition gathered these scattered wonders under a single sign, the Greek letter psi for psyche, and set out to chart them as a frontier of consciousness rather than a curiosity. It names the working edge where mind appears to exceed the brain.

The study of psi holds open the possibility that consciousness is woven into the fabric of reality more deeply than the ordinary picture allows, reaching across space and time. Survival research extends the inquiry to whether the self endures beyond the body. On the Atlas of mind, psi is the named territory of the unseen powers, the place where the boundaries of the knowable are still being walked.
I began using the term "Extra-Sensory Perception" (E. S. P.) at first with the more tentative meaning, "perception without the function of the recognized senses".
Of thoughts, feelings, etc., lying beneath the ordinary threshold (limen) of consciousness, as opposed to supraliminal, lying above the threshold.
There is no religion higher than truth.
