Myth
Myth is not a falsehood but the oldest way the human spirit speaks the truths too large for plain speech. The great stories of gods and heroes, creation and descent, are dreams dreamed by whole peoples, carrying the archetypal patterns of the soul across generations. Campbell saw in them a single inward face; Eliade saw the recital of sacred events that founded the world and that ritual returns us to.
To live mythically is to recognise one's own life inside the ancient pattern, to feel the eternal shining through the particular. Myth gives the psyche its bearings: it tells where we came from, what the trials mean, and how to return. On the map of mind, myth is the territory where image becomes destiny and the timeless enters time.
In their words
Follow your bliss.
Myths are public dreams, dreams are private myths.
Man becomes aware of the sacred because it manifests itself, shows itself, as something wholly different from the profane.
In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.
