Hero
The Hero is the archetype of the one who ventures out from the known world, crosses the threshold into the unknown, and returns transformed bearing a gift for the community. Joseph Campbell traced this single shape, the monomyth, beneath the world's myths: the call, the trials, the descent, the boon, the homecoming. It is the soul's own passage written large, the pattern of every initiation and every awakening.
Within each life the Hero's journey turns inward. The dragon to be faced is one's own shadow; the treasure is the recovered Self. To follow this path is to answer the call rather than refuse it, to walk willingly into the dark wood where the way is not yet made. The Hero shows the map of becoming: that we are changed only by what we are brave enough to enter.
In their words
Follow your bliss.
A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.
The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.
We need only in cold blood act as if the thing in question were real, and it will infallibly end by growing into such a connection with our life that it will become real.
