The mind beneath the mind

Habit

Habit is the subconscious in action, the groove worn so deep that thought, feeling, and behavior run along it automatically and unbidden. The deeper mind is habitual mind: whatever we entertain often enough and vividly enough in the surface mind eventually passes into the deeper mind, where it continues to act of itself. This is the great mercy and the great danger of being human, for the same law that chains us to old patterns can, once understood, be turned to build the patterns we choose. Character is simply habit grown so familiar it feels like fate.

The modern teachers reveal that we do not rise to the level of our goals but fall to the level of our systems, and that habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. Each small action is a vote for the person we are becoming; identity and habit shape one another in a continual loop. To change a life is to change its habits, and to change a habit is to make the new pattern small, repeated, and tied to who you now declare yourself to be, until the deeper mind takes it over and runs it for you.
The subconscious mind is the seat of habit.Charles F. Haanel
You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.James Clear
Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.James Clear
Deeper mind is habitual mind. Whatever we entertain often enough and vividly enough in our surface mind — whether by conscious, deliberate choice or by choice made so rapidly that we are not aware we have made it — eventually passes into deeper mind, where it continues to act automatically.Frederick W. Bailes
Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.James Clear
