The mind beneath the mind

Attention

Attention is the directing of awareness, the act of placing the mind upon one thing and so giving it life and growth. In this lineage attention is creative currency: what you attend to expands, takes on reality, and becomes the texture of your experience. Where attention flows, energy and being follow, and the disciplined control of attention is the root of every other inner practice.

The teachers treat the management of attention as the first discipline. The Fourth Way and contemplative streams train self-remembering and concentrated focus; Haanel and the New Thought writers make sustained mental concentration the master key; the nondual teachers turn attention back upon its own source in self-inquiry. To govern attention is to govern imagination, belief, and feeling, for nothing enters the inner world that attention has not first admitted.
We pay attention, we see, we hear. Those are all mental processes, mental activities. But there isn't a thing called the mind.Karl Pribram
Out of a potentially infinite amount of sensory experience, language picks out those things which people have found useful to attend to in consciousness.Richard Bandler
The world we perceive is the world we choose to perceive, and attention is the key.Jiddu Krishnamurti
Where your attention goes, energy flows.James Redfield (The Celestine Prophecy)
