Transformation and the path

Ascension

Ascension is the soul's upward movement toward its divine source, the rising of consciousness from the dense and material toward the radiant and free. In the Neoplatonic vision the soul climbs the ladder of being back to the One; in the Theosophical and channeled traditions it is the evolutionary lifting of the human into ever-higher states until the body itself is quickened into light. It is the answer to the descent, the long arc of return that completes the journey the spirit began when it first came into form.

The teachers of the ascended path speak of the I AM Presence above each person, the indwelling spark of the divine that the aspirant invokes and rises to meet. Ascension is not escape but transfiguration, the gradual exchange of mortality for the deathless life that Bailey calls entrance into fuller life and freedom from the handicaps of the fleshly vehicle. It is the crown of the whole path, the soul finally rising into the light from which it never truly departed.
