Doreen Virtue

Doreen Virtue (born April 29, 1958) is an American author who became, through the 1990s and 2000s, one of the best-selling figures in New Age angel spirituality.

She wrote more than fifty books and produced numerous oracle and angel-card decks centred on receiving guidance from angels, ascended masters, and other spiritual beings, building a large international following and helping make the angel-card deck a mainstream metaphysical product.

In 2017, Virtue publicly renounced this body of work. After describing a vision she attributed to Jesus, she converted to a conservative form of Christianity and repudiated her earlier teachings as spiritually dangerous, withdrawing her oracle cards and New Age titles from print and publicly warning people against angel cards, psychic readings, and the New Age generally.

This renunciation should be stated plainly: she now disavows the very work for which she is catalogued here. These are foundational New Age figures. Presented as a sincere experiment, her case is recorded both for its historical role in popularizing angel work and as an honest example of a prominent teacher repudiating her own tradition.
