The transmission
Joshua David Stone (1953–2005) was an American transpersonal psychologist and one of the most systematic popularizers of the 1990s “ascension” movement.
He compiled the multi-volume Easy-to-Read Encyclopedia of the Spiritual Path, opening with The Complete Ascension Manual: How to Achieve Ascension in This Lifetime (1994), and founded the Melchizedek Synthesis Light Academy, later renamed the I AM University.
Drawing heavily on Alice Bailey, the Theosophical Masters, and the I AM / Ascended Master tradition, he aimed to gather the scattered teachings of Western esotericism into a single accessible curriculum.
Stone’s contribution to the mind-power lineage is synthetic and practical: he assembled an “integrated ascension toolkit,” a large catalogue of techniques, invocations, mantras, and graded initiations drawn from many sources and arranged as steps anyone could follow to “build their light quotient” and accelerate spiritual evolution.
Whatever the metaphysical claims, the method is recognizably mind-power: repeated invocation, visualization, affirmation, and disciplined daily practice intended to reshape identity and inner state. By packaging the Bailey-Theosophical hierarchy and the I AM tradition into encyclopedic, do-it-yourself manuals, he gave the late-twentieth-century ascension subculture much of its working vocabulary and technique.
