A Teacher
David Spangler
The New Age as available cosmic energies requiring conscious co-creation
The transmission
David Spangler (born 1945, Columbus, Ohio) is an American spiritual teacher and author who became one of the most articulate voices of the early New Age movement.
He joined the Findhorn community in 1970 and served as a co-director, where experiences he described as “transmissions” from subtle or spiritual sources formed the basis of his first major book, Revelation: The Birth of a New Age (Findhorn Press, 1971), later expanded in a 1976 edition.
In 1973 he returned to the United States and founded the Lorian Association, based on the Findhorn model. Spangler’s place in this Atlas rests on his attempt to give the New Age idea intellectual and spiritual coherence.
During his Findhorn years he developed a vision of the New Age not as an automatic astrological inevitability but as a set of new cosmic energies made available to humanity, which could bring about a transformed age only if consciously accepted and worked with through dedicated spiritual effort.
He later directed the Lorian Center for Incarnational Spirituality, emphasizing grounded, embodied spiritual practice. These are foundational New Age figures. Presented as a sincere experiment, his contribution is a participatory, effort-dependent account of spiritual transformation.
