Tapping + memory reframing to change the subconscious

Robert Gene Smith is an American self-help teacher and the creator of FasterEFT — later rebranded eutaptics® — a proprietary, reframing-heavy descendant of Gary Craig’s Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), which itself descends from Roger Callahan’s Thought Field Therapy (TFT).

Smith, who runs the Skills to Change Institute, recounts that he began with standard EFT and progressively reworked it into what he calls “a very different system,” folding in NLP, BSFF (Be Set Free Fast), hypnosis-style language, and the deliberate reframing (‘flipping’) of memories.

He teaches almost entirely through online courses, certifications, and a large library of free demonstration videos rather than through peer-reviewed work or a single foundational book, and the modality is strongly identified with him personally.

Smith’s place in the Atlas is as the founder of a popular, founder-branded tapping derivative that sits inside the contested energy-psychology family. His distinctive moves are a stripped-down tap sequence said while “letting go,” a signature wrist-grab + breath + “Peace” cue to end a cycle, an “aiming” model in which you target a feeling so the subconscious accesses “the records” holding it, and an explicit memory re-imprinting / “flip” in which the recalled scene is changed toward a positive one.

He embodies the field’s core tension: the practical ingredients (imaginal exposure, self-soothing, breathing, cognitive reframing) are real and ordinary, while the inherited “energy meridian” rationale and the strong “rewrite the memory / fast cure” claims are unsupported and over-reach.

Benefits, where they occur, are plausibly explained by exposure, relaxation, and reappraisal — not by meridians.

Created FasterEFT / eutaptics®: A simplified, reframing-led reworking of EFT taught primarily through online courses and videos.

  • The “aim + notice” model: Reframed targeting as simply noticing how you know the problem exists, then letting the subconscious “do the rest.”
  • The wrist-grab + “Peace” cue: A signature state-shift to close each tapping cycle with a peaceful memory.
  • Memory “flipping” / re-imprinting: Made deliberate reframing of the remembered scene central — the key way the method departs from standard EFT.
  • Mechanism flag: Like its EFT/TFT parents, the energy-meridian rationale is unsupported; relief is plausibly from exposure, soothing, and reappraisal. (See empirical-standing analysis.)

Influenced by: EFT (Gary Craig); NLP; Bob Proctor / New Thought; hypnosis.

  • Influenced: the FasterEFT / eutaptics® community of practitioners and certified coaches. (Critical note: FasterEFT is a proprietary EFT derivative; its “energy meridian” mechanism is unsupported and there is essentially no independent controlled-trial evidence for FasterEFT specifically.)
