You create your own reality

Jane Roberts (1929–1984) was an American poet and science-fiction writer who, beginning in late 1963 during experiments with a Ouija board, reported contact with a discarnate personality calling itself “Seth,” who described himself as an “energy personality essence no longer focused in physical form.” For the next two decades, until her death in 1984, Roberts delivered the Seth material in trance while her husband Robert Butts transcribed it, producing a large and unusually systematic body of channeled philosophy—most importantly Seth Speaks (1972) and The Nature of Personal Reality (1974).

The Seth material is widely regarded as the intellectual and stylistic gold standard of modern channeled metaphysics and a foundational text of the reality-creation tradition. Its central axiom—“you create your own reality”—was articulated with a rigor and consistency rare in the genre: Seth argued that consciousness creates form, that the self is multidimensional and extends across “reincarnational” and “probable” selves, that time is simultaneous rather than linear, and (in the more operational Nature of Personal Reality) that personal beliefs literally organize perception, body states, and external events down to the cellular level.

This framework supplied the conceptual architecture—belief-generated experience, probable realities, simultaneous time—that the later Law of Attraction movement (especially the Hicks/“Abraham” material) would inherit and popularize.

“You create your own reality”: Crystallizes the core manifestation axiom in its definitive modern form, treated as literal rather than metaphorical.

  • Beliefs as the operative mechanism: Argues that personal beliefs physically organize perception, behavior, body, and events—making belief-examination the practical technique.
  • Probable realities: Introduces the idea of multiple coexisting probable selves and outcomes, a direct ancestor of “shifting” and parallel-reality discourse.
  • Simultaneous time: Replaces linear causation with simultaneous time, reframing the “present point of power” as where reality is created.
You get what you concentrate upon. There is no other main rule.
