The transmission
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, born May 13, 1956, in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu, is an Indian spiritual leader and humanitarian widely known as ‘Gurudev.’ In his youth he studied Vedic literature and was associated with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation movement before charting his own path.
In 1982 he founded the Art of Living Foundation, a global nonprofit for spiritual practice and social transformation, and developed its central Sudarshan Kriya rhythmic breathing technique. In 1997 he founded the International Association for Human Values for humanitarian and sustainable-development work.
