Dean Radin
Parapsychology, psi meta-analysis
The transmission
Dean Radin (1952–present) is the chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and the most prominent contemporary researcher of psi (telepathy, precognition, psychokinesis, distant intention).
Trained in electrical engineering and psychology, he has worked in laboratory settings (including at Princeton, Edinburgh, and SRI-adjacent programs) and authored The Conscious Universe (1997), Entangled Minds (2006), and Real Magic (2018).
He approaches psi as an empirical question, emphasizing meta-analyses that, he argues, show small but statistically significant effects across thousands of trials. However, the mainstream scientific consensus is that these effects are best explained by methodological flaws, publication bias, the file-drawer problem, and the absence of a replicable, theory-grounded mechanism — and that no psi result has met the bar of robust, independent replication that would overturn physics.
Radin’s appeal to quantum entanglement as a possible substrate for psi is regarded as metaphorical, not mechanistic. For the manifestation world he supplies the most scientifically literate case that “intention has measurable effects,” which is why his caveats (small effects, not proof of mind-creates-reality) are usually dropped. Tier: contested / fringe-empirical.
What they gave
Psi meta-analyses: Aggregated parapsychology data into the most-cited statistical case for distant mental effects.
- Entangled-minds framing: Proposed (metaphorical) quantum entanglement as a substrate for interconnection and intention.
- Scientific respectability for intention: Gave manifestation a credentialed empirical reference, frequently stripped of its caveats.
- IONS research program: Institutionalized ongoing study of consciousness-as-causal claims.
In their words
Psi phenomena suggest that the strict subjective-objective dichotomy may instead be part of a continuous spectrum, and that the usual assumptions about space and time are probably too restrictive.
The line they stand in
Influenced by: J.B. Rhine (parapsychology); Robert Jahn and the PEAR program; quantum-consciousness theorizing.
- Influenced: Modern parapsychology; intention- and distant-healing research; manifestation discourse citing “the science of psi.”
