Prosperity through prayer and thought

Catherine Ponder is an American Unity minister and prolific author who became the most prominent twentieth-century voice of New Thought prosperity teaching.

Beginning with The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity (1962) and continuing through a long “Millionaires of the Bible” series and many other titles, she reframed financial abundance as a spiritual law accessible through prayer, affirmation, tithing, and a consciousness of plenty rather than lack.

Ponder’s contribution is to have systematized and feminized the prosperity strand of New Thought for a mass devotional audience, rooting it explicitly in Christian scripture and Unity practice. She insisted that poverty was not a virtue and that prosperity was the natural birthright of a properly aligned mind.

Her enormous output and durable readership made her a key conduit between early Unity (the Fillmores) and the contemporary “abundance” manifestation culture, including the prosperity emphasis that pervades modern coaching.

Prosperity as spiritual law: Codified wealth and abundance as governed by mental and spiritual principles, not chance.

  • Scriptural reframing: Read biblical figures as prosperity exemplars, anchoring abundance teaching in Christian metaphysics.
  • Affirmation and tithing practice: Popularized specific devotional techniques—affirmations, prayer, giving—for cultivating a prosperity consciousness.
  • Mass devotional reach: Sustained one of the largest bodies of prosperity literature, bridging early Unity and modern abundance manifestation.
The shocking truth about prosperity is that it is shockingly right instead of shockingly wrong for you to be prosperous!
The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity (1962)
Another of the shocking truths about prosperity is that thoughts of your mind have made you what you are, and thoughts of your mind will make you whatever you become from this day forward.
The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity (1962)
Your mind is your connecting link with it. Your attitudes, your mental concepts, beliefs, and outlook are your connecting links with God’s rich substance and your access to it.
The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity (1962)
I like to think of this basic law of prosperity as radiation and attraction: that what you radiate outward in your thoughts, feelings, mental pictures and words, you attract into your life and affairs.
The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity (1962)
The mind is man’s wonderful servant, when he realizes this and trains his mind to work for him.
The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity (1962)
You have all the love you need for healing, prosperity, and happy human relationships right within yourself. Divine love is one of your mental and spiritual faculties. You do not have to search outside yourself for love.
The Prospering Power of Love (1983)
Begin realizing now that love is first within you and can be released through your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. As you begin developing love from within outward, you are truly proving your method to be spiritual, scientific, and satisfying.
The Prospering Power of Love (1983)
You no longer feel at the mercy of people, situations, and conditions. You become master of your world and free from hurt, fear, disappointment, and disillusionment.
The Prospering Power of Love (1983)
Your part is not to wonder how love works, but just to dare to begin releasing it, from within yourself. When you do, you will always witness interesting and satisfying results.
