Mindful lucid dreaming

Charlie Morley (b. 1984) is a British author and teacher who fuses lucid dreaming with Tibetan Buddhist dream yoga and mindfulness. Authorized to teach within the Kagyu lineage by Lama Yeshe Rinpoche, he developed “Mindfulness of Dream and Sleep,” presenting nocturnal practice as a path of psychological healing and spiritual development rather than mere novelty.

His books — Dreams of Awakening, Lucid Dreaming Made Easy, and Dreaming Through Darkness — emphasize using lucidity for shadow integration, trauma resolution (including work with veterans on nightmares and PTSD), and contemplative growth.

He bridges the experimental lucid-dream tradition of LaBerge with the explicitly transformational aims of Tibetan dream yoga.

Mindfulness-integrated lucidity: Combines meditation practice with lucid-dream induction for stability and depth.

  • Healing applications: Pioneered using lucid dreaming for trauma, nightmares, and shadow work.
  • Dream yoga for the West: Translates Tibetan nocturnal practices into accessible secular-friendly form.
  • The night as practice ground: Positions sleep and dream as a continuous field for conscious self-transformation.

Influenced by: Tibetan dream yoga and the Kagyu lineage (Akong/Yeshe Rinpoche); Stephen LaBerge; mindfulness practice.

  • Influenced: the mindfulness-based lucid-dreaming community; trauma- and PTSD-focused dreamwork.
