A Teacher
Mooji (Anthony Paul Moo-Young)
Self-inquiry / abiding as awareness
The transmission
Mooji is a Jamaican-born, UK-raised spiritual teacher who, after a transformative meeting with a Christian mystic and then with the Advaita teacher Papaji (H.W.L.
Poonja, himself a disciple of Ramana Maharshi), began offering satsang—gatherings of spiritual inquiry. Through widely viewed online videos and his community at Monte Sahaja in Portugal, he became one of the most popular contemporary nondual teachers.
His method is direct self-inquiry in the lineage of Ramana: pointing the seeker, through questioning and guided invitations, to recognize that their true nature is the awareness in which all experience appears, rather than the personal “me.” Mooji’s role in the Atlas is as a major popularizer of Ramana-lineage self-inquiry for the internet age.
He transmits the “Who am I?” investigation (Ramana → Papaji → Mooji) to a global online audience through accessible, devotional, experientially-oriented satsang. This places him squarely in the neo-Advaita stream alongside Spira, Adyashanti, and Gangaji, and connects the contemporary-nondual branch back to its source in.
As with the other nondual teachers, his orientation is liberation through recognition of one’s nature rather than acquisition—useful in the Atlas as a contrast to the manifestation register, while sharing the “awareness is primary” premise.
What they gave
Internet-age satsang: Brought live nondual self-inquiry to a mass online audience.
- Direct self-inquiry: Carries Ramana’s “Who am I?” through Papaji into contemporary practice.
- Abiding as awareness: Points seekers to rest as the awareness in which experience appears.
- Devotional accessibility: Made neo-Advaita approachable and widely shared.
In their words
You can lose everything else, but you can never lose the awareness that you are. It is the consciousness of Being and Self-awareness that we love.
The simplicity of Being, the naturalness of the Self, requires no technique, strategy, plan, knowledge, or learning.
Go to the source—you don’t have far to go. You don’t have to take even a single step, because it’s all here right now.
By continuing with detached witnessing, the pull to escape will begin to weaken, and an increased sense of presence will be felt.
It’s natural that things go wrong sometimes—they go wrong so that they can go right.
You will arrive at the realization that you are just joy itself, and everything you do arises out of this joy, out of this spaciousness, light, and love.
Now it’s our turn to live in search of the Truth. By prioritising that quest, we place ourselves on the cutting edge of the human experience.
