Modern Law of Assumption Culture
Self-concept, states, reality shifting
The transmission
The “Law of Assumption” movement is a decentralized, internet-native subculture that crystallized in the late 2010s, primarily on Tumblr, YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit, around a revival of Neville Goddard’s teachings.
Where the older “Law of Attraction” (popularized by Hicks and Byrne) framed manifestation as attracting external matches to one’s vibration, the Law of Assumption community returned to Goddard’s stricter, solipsistic claim: that consciousness is the only reality and that one manifests not by attracting but by assuming the self-concept of already having the desired state.
The movement has no single founder; it is a memetic phenomenon propagated by anonymous and semi-anonymous creators, distilled into shareable infographics, short videos, and forum vocabulary. Its system-building is collective and algorithmic rather than authored.
The community generated a dense native lexicon—“the void state” (a deep meditative non-physical awareness for instant manifestation), “SATS” (Goddard’s State Akin To Sleep), “robotic affirming,” “scripting,” “the 4D vs. the 3D,” “persisting,” and “revision”—and fused Goddard with Zeland-style “reality shifting” (jumping to alternate “desired realities,” often via elaborate “shifting methods”).
The result is a continuously remixed, gamified folk-practice in which adherents debate technique in comment threads and short-form video, making it the dominant manifestation paradigm of the social-media generation.
What they gave
Self-concept as the master variable: Centers the deliberate revision of one’s self-concept (after Goddard) as the single root cause of all external circumstance.
- The “void state” and instant manifestation: Develops a native technique claiming that a deep state of pure awareness allows immediate, frictionless manifestation.
- Reality shifting and “desired reality” (DR): Merges Goddard’s states with Zeland-style lifeline-jumping, producing elaborate “shifting methods” to access alternate realities.
- Algorithmic repetition as practice: Turns short-form video and infographic virality itself into the transmission mechanism—“robotic affirming,” scripting, and persistence reinforced by feed repetition.
The line they stand in
Taught by / Influenced by: Neville Goddard (the central source); Vadim Zeland’s Reality Transurfing (shifting/lifelines); the Hicks “Abraham” and Byrne Secret law-of-attraction milieu it reacts against; New Thought generally.
- Taught / Influenced: TikTok, YouTube, and Reddit manifestation communities; the “shifting” and “void state” subcultures; the contemporary manifestation-coaching and digital-course economy.
