A Teacher
Moina Mathers
Artist and seeress who gave the Golden Dawn its visionary face.
The transmission
Moina Mathers, born Mina Bergson in Geneva and sister of the philosopher Henri Bergson, was an artist and occultist central to the founding of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
With her husband S.L. MacGregor Mathers she shaped the order’s ritual and iconography, serving as its clairvoyant seeress while he was the evoker of spirits. After his death in 1918 she led the successor body, the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega.
What they gave
She created much of the Golden Dawn’s ritual artwork and symbolism and acted as the order’s principal seer and ceremonial officer.
The line they stand in
A co-founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn alongside her husband, she trained in its Rosicrucian and Kabbalistic system and later headed Alpha et Omega.
