Disciplined intent on the Warrior’s Path

Théun Mares (1952–2011) was born in Zimbabwe and lived in Cape Town, South Africa, presenting himself as a nagal (leader-seer) of the Toltec tradition. He described being trained from childhood in the disciplines of that path and went on to write a series of books recasting Toltec teaching for a modern readership, beginning with Return of the Warriors (1995), the first volume of his Toltec Teachings.

He continued teaching and writing until his death in 2011. Mares matters to the mind-power lineage as a systematiser of the Warrior’s Path—an action-based discipline of self-empowerment built on the deliberate cultivation of intent.

Where popular manifestation often emphasises passive attraction, Mares foregrounds disciplined will, self-reliance, and the refusal to outsource one’s authority: practitioners are taught to value their own direct experience above received information, and to forge self-belief and self-responsibility as the true foundations of freedom.

Reality, on this view, is participatory and shaped by focused intent and free choice, and one’s identity as a “warrior” is to be assumed first, ahead of circumstance. (Tradition tagged Transpersonal Psychology as the closest controlled fit; his stream is explicitly Toltec/shamanic and draws on the Castaneda-popularised lineage.)

The Warrior’s Path: Framed self-empowerment as a disciplined practice of intent, accountability, and impeccable action rather than passive wishing.

  • Intent as the active force: Centered focused will and free choice as the means by which the warrior engages and shapes a participatory reality.
  • Self-reliance over received belief: Taught practitioners to trust direct experience and build self-belief as the ground of freedom.
  • Modern Toltec synthesis: Organised Toltec ideas into a structured, sequential body of teaching for contemporary Western students.

Influenced by: The Toltec tradition as he received it; the broader Castaneda-popularised Toltec/warrior current.

  • Influenced: The Toltec Legacy community he founded; contemporary practitioners of the Warrior’s Path.
