Jason Louv
Enochian as dimensional interface
The transmission
Jason Louv is an American author, journalist, and occult educator who became a prominent figure in the modern, internet-era revival of ceremonial magic. Emerging from the magical-culture publishing world of the 2000s (he edited anthologies such as Generation Hex and Ultraculture), he later founded the online magic school Magick.
Me, translating traditionally guarded occult training into accessible digital courses for a contemporary audience. His major scholarly-popular work is John Dee and the Empire of Angels (2018).
Louv’s contribution to this branch is the modernization and re-systematization of Enochian magic. The Elizabethan polymath John Dee, with the scryer Edward Kelley, had recorded in the 1580s an elaborate “angelic” language and system of contact; Louv reframes Dee’s project not as superstition but as an early attempt at a hyper-dimensional interface—a protocol for communicating with non-human intelligences—and situates it within the history of Western empire, science, and information.
In doing so he blends ceremonial occultism with the contemporary vocabulary of systems theory, “cognitive hacking,” and consciousness technology, presenting magic as a set of techniques for reprogramming perception and accessing other orders of mind.
This positions him as a key bridge between historical ceremonial magic and the tech-literate, online occult culture of the present.
What they gave
Enochian as dimensional interface: Reframes Dee’s angelic system as a protocol for contacting non-human intelligences, not mere superstition.
- Magic as cognitive technology: Blends ceremonial occultism with systems theory and “cognitive hacking,” presenting magic as perception-reprogramming.
- Historical-systemic framing: Situates occult practice within the history of empire, science, and information, lending it intellectual seriousness.
- Digital occult pedagogy: Through Magick. Me, converts guarded initiatory training into accessible online instruction.
