Ervin Laszlo

Akashic field, systems holism

Ervin Laszlo (1932–present) is a Hungarian-born philosopher of science and former concert pianist who built a serious early reputation in general systems theory, writing influential works on systems philosophy and global futures and founding the Club of Budapest.

That systems-theory work is academically legitimate. His later and far more contested project is the theory of the “Akashic field” (or “A-field” / “psi-field”), set out in books such as Science and the Akashic Field (2004), which proposes that the quantum vacuum is an information-storing field that records and connects all events, minds, and matter throughout the cosmos — a scientific reformulation of the Hindu/Theosophical concept of the Akashic Records.

The Akashic-field theory is not accepted physics. Critics regard it as a paradigmatic example of dressing mystical and parapsychological claims in physics terminology. For the manifestation and holistic-spirituality worlds, Laszlo is valuable precisely because he carries genuine academic credentials into territory that would otherwise read as pure esotericism, lending an air of scientific respectability to “everything is connected through the.

Akashic field: Recast the mystical Akashic Records as a quantum-vacuum information field, a major “cosmic memory/connection” reference.

  • Systems holism: Brought legitimate systems-theory holism into spiritual discourse, supporting “interconnected whole” framings.
  • Credentialed bridge: Lent academic authority to non-local consciousness, telepathy, and reincarnation claims.
  • Integration narrative: Framed science and spirituality as converging, a core meta-claim of the quantum-consciousness movement.

Influenced by: General systems theory; David Bohm’s wholeness; the Hindu/Theosophical Akasha concept; quantum-vacuum physics (reinterpreted).

  • Influenced: Akashic-field and Akashic-records discourse; integral and holistic-science movements; “science confirms spirituality” popular literature.
