Konstantin Korotkov

Konstantin Korotkov (1952–present) is a Russian physicist who developed Gas Discharge Visualization (GDV) — also marketed as Electrophotonic Imaging or “bio-well” — a computerized descendant of Kirlian photography that captures the corona discharge around a fingertip in a high-voltage electric field.

Korotkov interprets these glow patterns as a measurable image of the human “biofield” or “energy field,” claiming the technique can assess health, emotional state, stress, the effect of intention and meditation, and even (in his most-publicized claim) detect a “soul” leaving the body at death.

The underlying corona-discharge phenomenon is real electrophysics, but Korotkov’s interpretation of it as imaging a holistic biofield or spiritual energy is not scientifically supported. The corona is well explained by ordinary variables — skin moisture, sweat, pressure, temperature, voltage, and gas ionization — which fully account for the variation Korotkov attributes to subtle energy or consciousness.
