Focused thought & subconscious reprogramming

John Kehoe (born February 24, 1947) is a Canadian author, motivational speaker, and personal-development teacher widely regarded as the originator of the “Mind Power” method.

In 1975 he withdrew into the wilderness of British Columbia for three years of intensive study and contemplation of how the mind works, and from that retreat he formulated his first structured program for developing what he calls mind power.

In 1978 he began travelling and teaching the principles he had worked out, eventually running Mind Power seminars and trainings across dozens of countries. His best-known book first appeared in 1987 as “Mind Power” and was expanded and re-released in 1997 as “Mind Power Into the 21st Century,” which has sold several million copies and been translated into many languages.

Kehoe’s method is a practical, disciplined system rather than a metaphysical creed: he teaches that consistent, focused thought combined with daily visualization, affirmations, and deliberate repetition reprograms the subconscious mind, which then draws corresponding circumstances, opportunities, and people into a person’s life.

He frames the mind as a creative instrument that can be trained like a muscle, and his trainings center on concrete exercises - imprinting, visualization, affirmation, and what he terms “seeding” the subconscious - meant to be practiced until they become automatic.

His later works, including “Quantum Warrior: The Future of the Mind” (2011), extend the same core teaching toward consciousness and the relationship between mind and reality.

Codified the “Mind Power” method: distilled a stand-alone, repeatable training system out of New Thought and success-literature ideas, emphasizing focused thought, visualization, affirmation, and repetition.

  • “Mind Power Into the 21st Century” (1987 / 1997): a multi-million-copy international bestseller that put practical mind-training techniques in front of a mass global audience.
  • Subconscious reprogramming as daily practice: reframed belief-change as concrete, scheduled exercises (visualization, affirmations, imprinting) rather than abstract philosophy.
  • Mind Power seminars and home-study programs: built a worldwide teaching operation, carrying the method into live trainings and structured courses across many countries.
  • Bridging mind-power and consciousness work: in later books such as “Quantum Warrior” he linked his practical method to broader questions about consciousness and the nature of reality.
Whether you like it or not, you are forever creating your reality through what you are thinking.
Mind Power Into the 21st Century (1997)
Thought is forever attempting to find form, is always looking for an outlet, is always trying to manifest itself. It is the nature of thought to try and materialize into its physical equivalent.
Mind Power Into the 21st Century (1997)

Kehoe stands squarely in the New Thought and twentieth-century success-literature lineage, carrying forward the conviction that disciplined thought reshapes both the self and outer circumstances. His emphasis on reprogramming the subconscious through visualization and affirmation echoes Joseph Murphy’s work on the subconscious mind, while his framing of focused thought as a deliberate engine of achievement parallels the success tradition of Napoleon Hill.

Working from his own British Columbia retreat rather than a particular teacher, he repackaged these inherited ideas into a self-contained, exercise-driven “Mind Power” program, becoming one of the principal late-twentieth-century popularizers who carried the mind-creates-reality teaching into a contemporary, mass-market self-development form.
