Clairvoyant Theosophical investigation

Geoffrey Hodson (1886–1983) was an English-born Theosophist, lecturer, and prolific author who became one of the twentieth century’s most active clairvoyant investigators in the lineage of C.W.

Leadbeater and Annie Besant. Over a long career with the Adyar Theosophical Society he wrote more than forty books, including The Kingdom of the Gods, Clairvoyant Investigations, and The Brotherhood of Angels and of Men, in which he reported detailed clairvoyant observations of angels and “devas,” nature spirits, the structure of subtle bodies, and the inner-plane workings of ritual and music.

He worked for decades as an international lecturer, eventually settling in New Zealand, and presented his investigations as a kind of trained, repeatable inner-world research. Hodson’s place in the mind-power lineage is as a late continuator of the Theosophical Society’s clairvoyant-investigation tradition, extending it deep into the twentieth century and toward the New Age.

He inherited and elaborated the master-and-hierarchy framework, treating the Spiritual Hierarchy and its angelic/deva orders as objects of disciplined clairvoyant study rather than mere doctrine. His vivid accounts of the deva kingdom and of thought and emotion as forces shaping subtle matter helped carry the Theosophical model of an ensouled, hierarchically organized cosmos into the angelic, deva, and nature-spirit spirituality that flourishes in New Age and ascension circles.

In this way Hodson bridges the Besant–Leadbeater era of “occult chemistry” and thought-form investigation to the contemporary milieu of angel work, energy healing, and ascension cosmology.

Clairvoyant investigation as method: Continued the Theosophical project of treating inner-plane perception as a repeatable mode of research into subtle reality.

  • Mapping the deva / angelic kingdom: Produced detailed accounts of angels and nature spirits that fed New Age angelic and deva spirituality.
  • Subtle bodies and thought-as-force: Reinforced the model of mind and emotion as energies that shape subtle matter, central to energy-healing worldviews.
  • Twentieth-century transmission of the hierarchy: Kept the ascended-master / spiritual-hierarchy framework vivid and detailed for later generations.
Physically, the universe displays exuberant variety and richness of individuality of apparently separate beings and forms. Superphysically, however, the unifying, vital principle begins to be perceived. Spiritually, all is seen to be the product and expression of one deific, creative Power under the operation of one immutable Law.
The Kingdom of the Gods (1952)
The mind is the key-position which must be occupied and held throughout the conflict.
Meditations on the Occult Life
The man who is spiritually awakening and is rapidly entering into closer attunement with life will find his environment changing quickly; the conditions of life will reflect with increasing fidelity the state of and changes in his consciousness.
Meditations on the Occult Life
All personal claims, even to immortality, must be withdrawn, for only when the old self is surrendered may the new Self be born. This is the Christ birth in the human heart.
Meditations on the Occult Life
The mind both blinds and illumines according to the evolutionary development of the thinker. In mental infancy and adolescence, the mind divides, in maturity it unites.
Meditations on the Occult Life
The statement that “God is Love” is literally true, for love is unity in manifestation. Unity is an eternal principle, a root and fundamental truth.
Meditations on the Occult Life
The development of the will is of the utmost importance to all who would tread the Path.
Meditations on the Occult Life
The mastery of mind demands the withdrawal of the consciousness from emotion and action into the intellect until the capacity for pure mental awareness is developed.
