Burkhard Heim
A multidimensional unified theory whose higher dimensions encode information and consciousness
The transmission
Burkhard Heim (9 February 1925 – 14 January 2001) was a German theoretical physicist who, at nineteen, lost his hands and most of his sight and hearing in a wartime laboratory explosion, and who nonetheless went on to construct one of the most ambitious unified field theories of the twentieth century.
Working largely outside the academic mainstream, he developed Heim theory, a heavily mathematical attempt to derive particle masses and unify gravity with quantum physics, framed within a multidimensional geometry.
Heim’s relevance to this Atlas lies in the later development of his framework, in which the universe is described as a twelve-dimensional structure whose higher dimensions are not physical but informational — and within which biological and psychological processes, including consciousness, can be formally represented.
He developed an extended logic to handle qualitative as well as quantitative aspects and affirmed the continued existence of consciousness beyond bodily death. This makes him a touchstone for thinkers seeking a physics in which consciousness and “information dimensions” are built into the fabric of reality, even as his theory remains unverified and outside accepted physics.
What they gave
Multidimensional unified theory: Built a twelve-dimensional geometric framework aiming to unify gravity and quantum physics.
- Informational higher dimensions: Distinguished physical dimensions from higher information dimensions in which non-physical events live.
- Consciousness in the formalism: Extended his mathematics and logic to represent biological and psychological processes, including consciousness.
- Survival affirmed: Held that consciousness persists after death, giving the idea a would-be physical scaffolding.
The line they stand in
Influenced by: general relativity; quantum field theory; the unified-field-theory tradition.
- Influenced: Heim-theory advocates; extra-dimensional models of consciousness; fringe-physics discourse.
Standing note: Heim theory is unverified and outside mainstream physics; its consciousness-and-information claims are speculative.
