Systematizing Reiki transmission
The transmission
Chujiro Hayashi (1880-1940) was a Japanese physician and retired naval officer who became one of the most important disciples of Mikao Usui, the originator of Reiki.
After receiving the master training from Usui, Hayashi opened a clinic in Tokyo where he refined the practice into a more clinical, systematized form, developing standardized hand positions and treatment protocols and keeping detailed records of healing sessions that lent the method a more procedural structure than Usui’s original teaching.
His decisive role in the lineage was the training and initiation of Hawayo Takata, the Japanese-American woman who carried Reiki from Japan to Hawaii and the wider West.
Without Hayashi as the bridge between Usui and Takata, Reiki would almost certainly not have survived and spread as a global energy-healing practice. In the Atlas he completes the founding Reiki transmission chain - Usui to Hayashi to Takata - and represents the move from a master’s intuitive transmission toward a teachable, standardized system.
What they gave
Clinical systematization of Reiki: Developed standardized hand-position sequences and treatment protocols, turning Usui’s intuitive practice into a teachable procedure.

The line they stand in
Hayashi stands directly downstream of Mikao Usui, from whom he received the Reiki master attunement, and directly upstream of Hawayo Takata, whom he trained and empowered as a master.
He thus forms the essential middle link of the canonical Reiki lineage, transmitting and clinically refining the system that Takata would carry to Hawaii and that would later branch into the many Western Reiki schools.
