Maitreya’s reappearance and Transmission Meditation
The transmission
Benjamin Creme (1922–2016) was a Scottish-born artist and esoteric lecturer who, from the mid-1970s, became the principal public announcer of the imminent reappearance of “Maitreya,” whom he described as the World Teacher awaited by the major religions.
Steeped in the Theosophy of Blavatsky and especially the writings of Alice Bailey, Creme claimed contact with a Master of Wisdom and began lecturing worldwide in 1975.
He founded the magazine Share International in 1982 and authored numerous books, including The Reappearance of the Christ and the Masters of Wisdom, maintaining until his death that Maitreya and the Masters were poised to emerge openly.
Creme’s relevance to the mind-power lineage lies less in his specific predictions than in the practice he popularized: Transmission Meditation, introduced in 1974. This is a group meditation in which participants hold an attitude of attentive alignment while, in Creme’s account, the Masters “step down” and direct great spiritual energies through the group as a planetary service.
The practice frames meditation as a disciplined act of energy transmission, fusing the Theosophical doctrine of a spiritual hierarchy and graded planes with a vibrational, service-oriented technique. Creme thereby carried the Bailey-Theosophical current into the late-twentieth-century New Age, sustaining the conviction that ordinary practitioners can consciously cooperate with higher intelligences through inner alignment.
