Hypnotic regression as access to a higher-self ‘Source’

Dolores Cannon (1931–2014) was an American hypnotherapist and author who developed Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT), a regression method she used for nearly five decades.

Beginning with hypnosis in the 1960s and turning to past-life regression in earnest from the late 1960s onward, she came to treat the deep hypnotic (somnambulistic) state not merely as a route to past lives but as a channel to what she called the subconscious or higher Self—a source she believed could deliver information and perform healing.

She taught her method from the 1990s, naming it QHHT around 2002, and in 1992 founded Ozark Mountain Publishing. She died in 2014; her daughter Julia Cannon continued teaching the technique. Cannon’s significance to the mind-power lineage is that she reframed hypnotic regression as a form of channeling: rather than a single discarnate entity speaking, the client’s own deeper consciousness becomes the “source.” Across seventeen books—including Jesus and the Essenes (1992), the Conversations with Nostradamus trilogy, the five-volume The Convoluted Universe series (2001–2015), and The Three Waves of Volunteers and the New Earth (2011)—she assembled a sprawling cosmology of parallel lives, extraterrestrial origins, and “volunteer souls” incarnating to assist Earth’s shift.

This material helped crystallize the contemporary “starseed” identity and links the older hypnotherapy tradition to the modern galactic-channeling ecosystem.

QHHT: Created a regression-hypnosis method positioning the subconscious/higher Self as a channellable healing “source.”

  • Regression as source-access: Reframed past-life work as a doorway to multidimensional information, not just memory.
  • ‘Volunteer souls’ cosmology: The Three Waves of Volunteers seeded the starseed/volunteer-soul narrative central to modern channeling culture.
  • A large channelled corpus: Seventeen books (incl. The Convoluted Universe) building a detailed metaphysics of parallel realities and ET contact.

Influenced by: past-life regression hypnotherapy; the broader channeling tradition; New Age reincarnation cosmologies.

  • Influenced: the worldwide QHHT practitioner community; the “starseed”/“volunteer souls” movement; regression-based source-access spirituality.
