Omnipresence of God / Divine Science

Nona Lovell Brooks was an American New Thought minister and a principal founder of Divine Science, one of the major denominational streams of the movement, centered in Denver, Colorado. After an experience of physical healing through New Thought teaching in the Hopkins lineage, she—together with her sisters and Malinda Cramer—organized Divine Science, was ordained, and led its college and church, becoming one of the first ordained women ministers in the tradition.

Brooks’s distinctive contribution is the strong, systematic emphasis on the omnipresence of God—the teaching that God is the one presence and power everywhere present, and that recognizing this omnipresence is the basis of healing and harmonious living.

Divine Science’s clear articulation of omnipresence influenced the broader New Thought world, including Ernest Holmes, who studied Divine Science teachers before formulating Science of Mind.

Brooks thus stands in the founding generation of New Thought denominations and helped shape the metaphysical vocabulary inherited by later manifestation thought.
