Gregg Braden
Divine matrix, heart-brain coherence
The transmission
Gregg Braden (1954–present) is a former aerospace/computer geologist turned bestselling New Age author who presents himself as a bridge between ancient spiritual wisdom and modern science.
In books like The Divine Matrix (2007) and The Spontaneous Healing of Belief (2008), he argues that a unifying field (the “Divine Matrix”) connects all things, and that human emotion and belief — especially generated through heart-brain coherence — directly shape physical reality, health, and even DNA.
He frequently cites the HeartMath Institute’s work on heart-rate variability and a handful of contested experiments (the “Backster” plant studies, the “DNA phantom” and “emotion changes DNA” claims) as proof.
He routinely misrepresents or overstates the underlying research: the experiments he cites are either discredited, non-replicated, or describe modest physiological effects (e.g., HRV changes) that he inflates into world-altering powers.
His narrative — that science now confirms we can manifest reality and heal disease through feeling — is a central pillar of contemporary manifestation culture. While heart-rate-variability and stress-reduction effects are real, the leap to consciousness reshaping external reality and DNA is not.
What they gave
Divine Matrix: Popularized a connecting cosmic field responsive to human emotion — a core manifestation cosmology.
- Heart-brain coherence: Built on HeartMath data to claim the heart’s “field” projects intention into reality.
- Emotion-alters-DNA claims: Cited contested experiments to argue feelings physically reshape the body, widely repeated and unsupported.
- Ancient-meets-quantum branding: Modeled the “lost wisdom confirmed by physics” rhetoric that pervades New Age science writing.
The line they stand in
Influenced by: HeartMath Institute research (overextended); quantum-mysticism literature; ancient-wisdom and prophecy traditions.
- Influenced: Modern manifestation and heart-coherence movements; New Age “science of feeling” discourse; Dispenza-style transformation teaching.
