Algernon Blackwood

1869–1951 Ceremonial Magick Supernatural fiction / nature mysticism

Storyteller who found awe and dread in living nature.

Algernon Henry Blackwood was a British novelist and short-story writer ranked among the masters of supernatural fiction, author of more than two hundred stories and a dozen novels. He joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in 1900, reaching the inner-order grade of Adeptus Minor.

His work fused occult learning with a profound, sometimes pantheistic, reverence for the natural world.

He wrote enduring weird tales such as ‘The Willows’ and ‘The Wendigo’ and the psychic-detective collection ‘John Silence’.

An Adeptus Minor of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, he combined its ceremonial training with nature mysticism and an interest in Eastern thought.
