Embodiment · “Being Precedes Having”
Energetic Alignment
Deliberately cultivate the inner feeling-state of already having what you want — joy, ease, abundance — so you are operating from that state rather than from lack.
In 4 lines: Catch yourself acting from lack. Slow your breath to reset. Name the feeling you actually want (ease, abundance) and generate it in your body now — then act from that state. Honest note: this calms you and primes action; the “your energy attracts the matching reality” claim is unproven, and nothing bad you experience is your fault.
What it is
This is Christy Whitman’s central practice: before doing anything about a goal, you first change your inner state — deliberately cultivating the feeling of already having ease, abundance, or success, rather than acting from the feeling of lacking it.
Whitman calls this getting into energetic alignment or becoming “a vibrational match” to what you want. Her headline claim is a clean restatement of the law of attraction: “When you change your energy about any situation, the situation will change to match your energy.” Described neutrally, the practice is a state-generation technique — you generate the target emotion on purpose — which is why it lives in embodiment state rather than imagination assumption.
The honest split: shifting your felt state is real and useful; the claim that the state then attracts the matching reality is the unsupported part.
The Method
A faithful rendering of Whitman’s published process (The Art of Having It All; her energy-mastery teaching):
- Notice the state you’re in. Catch when you’re operating from lack, scarcity, or “I don’t have it yet.” Bad-feeling emotion, in her model, signals you’re out of alignment.
- Conscious breathing to reset. Deepen and slow the breath intentionally to drop out of survival/striving mode and into a more receptive, “wholeness and wellbeing” state. This is the entry point, not an afterthought.
- Use contrast as a compass. When facing something unwanted, name the opposite feeling you actually want — ease instead of struggle, abundance instead of scarcity — and treat that named feeling as your target.
- Generate the feeling now. Consciously invoke that desired emotional state into your body — “feel what greater ease, abundance, or joy would resemble” — so you are a “cooperative component” to it. The felt state, not a vivid picture, is the operative act (The Inner Creates the Outer).
- Shift perspective to sustain it. Reframe a temporary low as a natural phase rather than permanent lack, so the good-feeling state can hold. Whitman: “it’s only ever our inner world that needs attention.”
- Return often. This is a state you re-enter many times a day, not a one-time visualization. (Sourcing note: the “vibrational match,” “change your energy / the situation will change,” conscious-breathing, contrast-as-compass, and “inner world needs attention” framings are Whitman’s published teaching, attributed and paraphrased. Short quotes are fair-use.)
Source & Lineage
Whitman draws this directly from the Abraham-Hicks vibrational-matching and emotional-guidance material, itself descended from New Thought and Neville Goddard’s “feeling is the secret.”.
Her distinct contribution is to systematize it into a coaching curriculum (Quantum Success Coaching Academy) and to lead with energy/feeling as the headline lever. Distinct from (Byrne: picture-then-feel) and decree work — Whitman’s emphasis is on the bare felt state and on shifting out of lack first, via the breath.
Common refinements
Forcing positivity over real fear. Straining to “feel abundant” while genuinely frightened reads as inauthentic and collapses fast. Start with the breath, then let the shift be small and real.
- Treating the feeling as the finish line. The state primes action; it is not action. Feel it, then do the next concrete thing.
- Spiritual bypassing. Using “raise your vibration” to skip past a problem that needs practical handling (a bill, a conflict) just defers it.
- Self-blame loops. If the outcome doesn’t come, the model can tempt you to conclude you “vibrated wrong.” Reject that — see Safety.
