Breath & Energy · “Breath Is the Bridge”
The Two Central Energy Flows
To raise and balance one’s ‘free energy’ by breathing while visualizing two central currents — one ascending from the earth, one descending from the sky — then forming protective energy ‘fountains’ and an enveloping sphere, said to strengthen intention and shield against ‘pendulums’.
Two central flows in 5 lines: Stand relaxed. In-breath: energy rises from the ground, up the front of the spine, out the crown. Out-breath: energy descends from the sky, through the head, down and out beneath the feet. Then run both at once, parallel, not crossing. Let each fountain out — over the head, under the feet — and unite them into a sphere around you. Keep the breath slow and easy; stop if you feel dizzy.
What it is
Alongside the mental techniques, Vadim Zeland teaches a subtle-body energy practice to raise what he calls free energy — the energy that, in his model, powers intention and protects against “pendulums” (parasitic energy-information structures).
You breathe while visualizing two central currents running through the body: an ascending current rising from the earth up through the body and out the crown, and a descending current flowing down from the sky through the head and out beneath the feet.
With practice you set both flowing at once, then extend them into two fountains above and below, and unite them into an energy sphere enveloping you. Structurally it is close to qigong/tantric “microcosmic-orbit”-style practices.
The Method
From Zeland’s energy chapters in Reality Transurfing:
- Stand relaxed. Take a comfortable, relaxed standing position; settle.
- Locate the two channels. The currents run along two central meridians near the spine. (Zeland notes the ascending current sits slightly in front of the spine — roughly an inch for men, two for women — but precise placement matters less than the felt direction.)
- Breathe in — raise the ascending current. On the in-breath, imagine a flow of energy coming out of the ground, entering at the perineum, rising up through the body along the front of the spine, and exiting through the top of the head. 4. Breathe out — drop the descending current. On the out-breath, imagine a flow of energy descending from the sky, entering the head, moving down through the body and out beneath the feet into the ground.
- Then run both at once. After a few breaths, imagine both currents moving simultaneously, each in its own channel, without crossing — one rising, one falling, continuously.
- Quicken and empower with intention. You can speed the flows and “imbue them with power” using the strength of your imagination — Zeland equates this directed imagining with intention itself.
- Form the two fountains. Let the ascending flow, after leaving the crown, fountain outward and pour down over your head; let the descending flow, after leaving beneath the feet, fountain the opposite way. You now have a fountain above and a fountain below.
- Unite into a sphere. Mentally join the two fountains so their cascading energy envelops you inside a sphere — Zeland’s image of a balanced, protected energy field. (Sourcing note: the in-breath/out-breath direction of the two currents, the channel placement note, the “fountains,” and the enveloping “sphere” are Zeland’s documented practice, paraphrased faithfully.)
Source & Lineage
From Reality Transurfing: Steps I-V (Vadim Zeland, 2004; English trans. Joanna Dobson), in the energy material (Step IV / book 3). → (Zeland). The exercise is essentially a Western-esoteric restatement of long-standing subtle-body energy circulation practices — most directly the Taoist microcosmic orbit and tantric/yogic channel (nadi) work — reframed in Zeland’s vocabulary of “free energy,” intention, and pendulum-protection.
The Traditions' versions
Taoist qigong — the microcosmic orbit — circulating energy up the back and down the front in a continuous loop; the closest structural ancestor.
- Yoga/Tantra — sushumna and the central channel; pranayama — directed breath plus visualized energy rising/falling along the spine.
- Pranic / “grounding and sky” energy meditations — drawing earth energy up and sky/heaven energy down (very common in modern energy work).
- Coherent / slow paced breathing — the secular, evidence-based core (~6 breaths/min) that this practice’s breathing rhythm approximates.
- Aura / protective-bubble visualizations — the “sphere” step parallels common shielding meditations.
Common refinements
Forcing the breath / hyperventilating. Keep breathing smooth, slow, and comfortable — the calming effect comes from slow breathing, not deep forceful gulps. Straining defeats the purpose and can cause lightheadedness.
- Crossing the channels or over-engineering geometry. Zeland’s point is two clean, parallel flows; obsessing over exact anatomical placement creates tension. Feel the direction; don’t measure.
- Chasing dramatic sensations. Subtle is normal. Treating absence of fireworks as failure leads to forcing.
- Skipping straight to the sphere. Build it: single current, then both, then fountains, then sphere. Rushing loses the felt continuity.
- Expecting it to “charge” you for manifesting. Use it for what it reliably does — calm, focus, centering — rather than as a literal energy battery.
