TAT Allergy/Sensitivity Protocol
To attempt to reduce a sensitivity or allergic-type reaction by lightly holding the TAT head pose while resting attention on the offending substance (or on a sample/its name) together with the TAT steps — the original purpose for which Fleming created TAT.
TAT for allergies in 5 lines (with a warning): Only for mild sensitivities — never true/anaphylactic allergy, and never instead of medical care. Take the TAT Pose (thumb + ring-finger above inner eye corners, middle finger above the brow, other hand cradling the back of the head). Rest attention on the substance through the steps: “everything that made me react to _ happened → it’s over, I no longer react → all places/origins healing → I choose to be at ease around _ → integrated now.” Drink water. Honestly: any benefit is most likely reduced anxiety/expectancy, not immune change — keep your allergist and your EpiPen.
What it is
This is the original use of Tapas Fleming’s TAT: she was an acupuncturist treating allergies when, in 1993, she developed the static head-pose technique.
The allergy/sensitivity application uses the same TAT Pose and Steps, but instead of a memory or belief, you rest your attention on the substance you react to — a food, pollen, dust, a chemical, an animal — sometimes while holding a small sample or vial, or simply naming it.
The claim is that this “clears” the body’s stuck reactive response to that substance. This is the most evidentially contested part of TAT and carries real safety risk, so it is documented here with strong caveats: as taught, not as endorsed.
The Method
Fleming’s allergy application (DVD Healing Traumas and Allergies; consistent with the general protocol):
- Choose one substance — safely. Pick a substance you have a mild sensitivity or intolerance to (e.g. a food that gives you a stuffy nose, a “feel-off” reaction). Do not use anything that causes severe or anaphylactic reactions. Optionally have a small sample, the food, or a written name nearby to focus on.
- Set the intention. Hold the pose and intend the healing on behalf of yourself, your body, your subconscious, your ancestors, “everyone involved,” safely and easily.
- Take the TAT Pose. One hand: thumb tip and ring-finger tip lightly just above the inner corners of the two eyes (tear-duct area), middle finger on the forehead half an inch above and between the brows. Other hand cradles the back of the head over the occiput (Fleming’s “vision centre”). Light touch only; rest arms whenever needed.
- Put attention on the substance + the Steps, one at a time. Holding the pose, rest attention on the substance through the TAT step structure — each held a few seconds to a minute until you feel a small settle (sigh/yawn/attention drift): - The problem: “Everything that contributed to my reacting to _ happened” (name the substance). - The opposite: “All that happened, it’s over, and I no longer react to _. I’m okay and I can relax now.” - The places: “All the places in my mind, body and life where this reaction has been stored are healing now.” - The origins: “All the origins of this reaction are healing now.” - Forgiveness / parts / what’s left: run the standard forgiveness, “all the parts of me related to this,” and “everything that’s left about this is healing now” steps. - I choose: “I choose to be at ease and healthy around ___.” - Integration (three poses): “All of this is completely integrated now with my grateful thanks” — standard pose, hands switched, ears encircled.
- Hydrate and rest. Fleming recommends drinking plenty of water on TAT days. Re-approach the substance only with appropriate caution and medical guidance. (Bracketed phrases adapt Fleming’s copyrighted step wording, quoted short for fidelity; the allergy framing follows her DVD and ‘TAT Story’. This is faithful paraphrase, not endorsement of efficacy.)
Source & Lineage
Tapas Fleming began an acupuncture practice specialising in allergies in 1987, and in 1993 developed TAT after combining the acupuncture point UB-1 (“Eyes Bright”) with a forehead point and a palm placed over the occipital “vision centre.” In “The TAT Story” she recounts that the back-of-head addition made allergy treatments markedly more effective and removed the need to combine allergens with other substances.
She later found the same pose cleared emotional upsets, which became TAT’s main use. → originator: TATLife. The allergy application belongs to the energy-medicine allergy-clearing genre alongside NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) and overlaps the tapping family; the general method is in.
The Traditions' versions
NAET (Devi Nambudripad) — the best-known “energy” allergy-elimination method: hold/stimulate spinal points while in contact with a vial of the allergen. Structurally the closest relative; same contested status.
- EFT for allergies — tapping while focused on the reactive substance.
- Conventional immunotherapy (the evidence-based contrast) — graded, medically supervised allergen exposure (shots, sublingual) that genuinely retrains the immune response; mentioned here precisely because it is the real desensitisation, against which TAT’s claims must be judged.
- Anxiety-reduction reframe — for sensitivities heavily driven by anticipatory anxiety, the calming/attention component may help the anxiety, not the immunology.
Common refinements
Treating a serious allergy with it. The single dangerous error. Never use TAT in place of avoidance, antihistamines, an EpiPen, or an allergist.
- “Testing” afterwards by eating/exposing. Do not provoke a reaction to “check if it worked”; this is how people get hurt.
- Confusing intolerance, sensitivity, and true allergy. They are different; TAT’s (weak) case is only ever for the mild/anxiety-linked end.
- Crediting energy clearing. If you feel better, attribute it honestly to calming/expectancy until proven otherwise.
- Over-long sessions. Keep total pose time ≤15–20 min/day.
