Connecting with Your Higher Self
To relax the body, quiet the mind, lift one’s inner state (‘raise your vibration’), and attune to the higher self / innermost being for a sense of wisdom, calm, and clarity.
In 4 lines: Relax the body and take a slow breath. Let the mind quiet and lift your inner state toward calm and love (“raise your vibration”). Turn toward your wiser, innermost self and rest in that contact without forcing. Return steadier, and let the calmer perspective inform your day. Trust only what feels loving and freeing.
What it is
This is the core contemplative move of the Orin material channeled by Sanaya Roman: deliberately relaxing, quieting the mind, lifting your inner state, and attuning to your “higher self.” Orin uses soul, spirit, higher self, and innermost self interchangeably for a calmer, wiser aspect of you, and teaches that you can learn to sense it, draw on it, and gradually live from it. The practice is a gentle inward turn: settle the body, let thought soften, raise your felt “vibration” toward love and peace, and rest in receptive contact with that wiser self — returning with a steadier, clearer view.
It rests on the deeper Self beneath the everyday ego (All Is One), the tradition’s language of inner state as energy/vibration (The Inner Creates the Outer), and stillness as the doorway to clarity (The Inner Creates the Outer).
Distinct from the siblings in this lineage. This is not a breath-count or single-point concentration like or, nor an emptying/no-thought practice like. Its defining feature is attuning to a personified wiser self via a deliberate lift in inner state. It is close in spirit to and (both “higher self” dialogues), but Orin’s form is a simple relax-and-raise meditation rather than a parts-dialogue or a shamanic journey.
The Method
A faithful representative protocol, drawn from Orin’s guided-meditation teaching:
- Get comfortable and relax. Sit or lie down, soften the body, and take a few slow breaths. Orin’s invitation to “pause for a moment, take a breath in, and connect with your innermost self“ is the seed of every Orin meditation.
- Quiet the mind. Let thoughts settle rather than fighting them; allow a receptive, witnessing stillness.
- Lift your inner state (“raise your vibration”). Deliberately move toward calm, love, and peace — recalling a warm or beautiful feeling, or simply intending a finer, lighter state. In Orin’s frame this “raises your vibration” toward the higher self.
- Attune to the higher self. Turn attention toward your wiser, innermost self as a felt presence. Ask to sense it; let warmth, spaciousness, or quiet knowing arise.
- Rest and receive. Stay in that contact without forcing. Insight may come as a calmer perspective, an image, or a felt shift — not a dramatic voice.
- Bring it back. Return gently, keep the steadier state, and let it inform a current question or the day ahead. (Sourcing note: “innermost self,” “higher self,” and “raise your vibration” are Orin/Roman terms, attributed; the steps are a faithful paraphrase of the recurring Orin meditation form, not a reproduction of copyrighted audio or text.)
Source & Lineage
The relax-and-attune form runs through the whole Orin corpus channeled by Sanaya Roman — Living with Joy (1986), Personal Power Through Awareness (1986), and especially Spiritual Growth: Being Your Higher Self (1989), plus decades of guided “Orin meditations.” With collaborator Duane Packer (channel of “DaBen”), Roman also taught attuning to a guide/higher self as a learnable skill in Opening to Channel (1987). → Voice node.
The “higher self” resource has kin in Assagioli’s Higher Self, the calm Self of IFS, and contemplative traditions of an inner knowing.
Common refinements
Mistaking chatter for guidance. The tone test helps: genuine “higher self” contact feels calm, loving, and freeing; harsh, fearful, or shaming “messages” are ordinary ego, not guidance.
- Forcing it. Straining to “reach” the higher self defeats the receptivity. If nothing comes, just rest in the relaxed, quiet state — that is already the benefit.
- Chasing dramatic phenomena. The shift is usually subtle (a calmer, wider view), not a booming voice or visions.
- Refinement: a low-belief anchor — “Let me settle, soften, and listen to the calmest, wisest part of me” — gives reliable access without requiring belief in a separate being.
