Pam Grout's 48-Hour Blessing Request

To request an unexpected, unmistakable blessing or gift from the ‘Field of Potentiality’ (FP) within a fixed 48-hour deadline, as a personal demonstration that a responsive, abundant force exists.

Beginner A bounded 48-hour window; ~2 min to set the request, then passive noticing New Thought / Law Of Attraction (Experiential / 'Prove-It-Yourself' Style)
48-Hour Blessing in 5 lines: Pick an exact 48-hour window. Ask the “Field of Potentiality” for a clear, unexpected blessing or sign you couldn’t have arranged. Set skepticism aside just for the window. Go live your life, watching lightly and expectantly. Write down whatever shows up. (It’s a noticing-and-expectancy game — enjoy it as one.)

Pam Grout — a New Thought author who reframes manifesting as a set of do-it-yourself “energy experiments” — opens E-Squared with a dare: spend 48 hours actively looking for evidence of a benevolent, abundant force she calls the “Field of Potentiality” (FP) or jokingly “the Dude.” You set a clear start and end time, then ask the FP to send you an unexpected blessing, gift, or sign that you’ll recognize beyond doubt, within that window.

Her framing is deliberately experimental and tongue-in-cheek: don’t take it on faith, test it and watch what shows up. The practice is a bounded, time-boxed ritual of expectant noticing.

From E-Squared, Experiment #1, “The Dude Abides Principle” (hypothesis as Grout frames it: there is an invisible, responsive energy force / field of infinite possibilities, and it will give you a clear sign if you ask):

  1. Set a firm 48-hour window. Pick an exact start time and an exact end time exactly 48 hours later. The deadline is essential — it makes the experiment falsifiable and keeps you from vaguely “waiting forever.”
  2. Make the request, out loud or in writing. Address the FP/“the Dude” and ask, in your own words, for a clearly recognizable blessing or gift to appear within the 48 hours — something you would not have expected and could not have manufactured yourself. Grout’s spirit: “I’m giving you 48 hours to show me you’re real — surprise me.” 3. Ask for unmistakable, not vague. The blessing should be specific enough to recognize without rationalizing — an unexpected gift, a surprise refund, a particular symbol (a butterfly, a specific number sequence, a feather). You’re inviting an answer you can’t talk yourself out of.
  3. Drop the skepticism for the duration. Grout asks you to “put aside any skepticism” while the clock runs — not to believe forever, just to play full-out for 48 hours so doubt doesn’t sabotage your noticing.
  4. Watch, expectantly and lightly. Go about your life, but stay alert for the blessing. Expectation plus attention is the whole engine. Don’t force or strain; notice.
  5. Record what shows up. Grout has you write down what you receive. Documenting it is part of the “experiment” framing and sharpens recall. (Sourcing note: the 48-hour window, the FP/“Dude” framing, the “ask for a blessing/sign,” the “put aside skepticism,” and the write-it-down step are Grout’s documented instructions in E-Squared Experiment 1. Exact request wording is a faithful paraphrase in her voice; she invites you to use your own words.)

Pam Grout (b. 1956), a travel/self-help writer, distilled New Thought and Law-of-Attraction ideas into nine bite-size “experiments” in E-Squared (2013), a surprise bestseller, followed by E-Cubed (2014) and Thank & Grow Rich (2016).

Her “FP / Field of Potentiality” is a pop-quantum repackaging of New Thought’s “Infinite Intelligence” / Divine Mind (Wattles, Holmes, Ponder) and overlaps with Dyer and Hicks-style LOA. The “ask and receive within a deadline” device is her own contribution — a way to make an abstract belief feel testable.

New Thought “ask and it is given” — Wattles’ Science of Getting Rich, Ponder’s prosperity prayers; Grout’s blessing-request is a gamified version.

  • Petitionary prayer — across faiths, asking a benevolent power for a specific sign and watching for the answer.
  • “Signs from the universe” practices — feathers, repeating numbers, synchronicity-spotting in popular spirituality.
  • Gratitude / expectancy practices — overlaps with Grout’s own Thank & Grow Rich frequency work.
  • Behavioural “scavenger hunt” — kin to her own Volkswagen Jetta attention experiment.

No deadline / no specifics. Without the firm window and a recognizable sign, the experiment can’t “land” and you’ll discount whatever happens.

  • Treating failure as a verdict. If nothing obvious appears, that’s base rates and noticing, not proof you’re unworthy or “low vibration.” Re-run it lightly.
  • Over-interpreting. The flip side: counting everything as the sign makes it meaningless. Pick one clear thing.
  • Grim striving. Grout’s tone is playful; anxious demanding kills the open, receptive noticing that does the real work.
  • Refinement: keep a running list of what you notice — it trains genuine attention to existing good regardless of metaphysics.
