The Emotion Code

To identify a discrete ‘trapped emotion’ (a ball of stuck emotional energy from a past event) via muscle-testing the subconscious, then ‘release’ it by sweeping a magnet several times down the governing meridian while intending the emotion to leave.

Emotion Code in 6 lines: Set up a yes/no muscle test (sway, finger-ring, or arm). Ask if there’s a trapped emotion to release. Use yes/no to narrow the Chart of Emotions to one named emotion. Set the intention to release it and sweep a magnet down the governing meridian 3 times (10 for “inherited”). Re-test to confirm, repeat. The “answers” come from the tester’s expectations, not the subconscious — treat it as a naming-and-closure ritual, never as diagnosis or a substitute for care.

The Emotion Code is a self-help energy-healing method by chiropractor Dr. Bradley Nelson. Its premise: unprocessed emotions from past events can become “trapped emotions” — discrete balls of stuck emotional energy lodged in the body — that distort wellbeing, relationships and even physical health.

The method uses muscle-testing to “ask the subconscious” yes/no questions and pinpoint a specific trapped emotion from Nelson’s Chart of Emotions (a 6×10 grid). Once identified, the emotion is “released” by running a magnet down the governing meridian (the energy line up the spine and over the head) a set number of times, with the intention to let it go.

Nelson also describes a “Heart-Wall” of trapped emotions said to block love and connection.

Nelson’s protocol (from The Emotion Code, 2007) runs roughly:

  1. Get permission / “Recognise God” and ask for help. Nelson frames it with a request for guidance and confirming you have permission to work (on yourself or, with consent, another).
  2. Establish muscle-testing. Calibrate yes/no: the sway test (body leans forward = yes, back = no), the finger ring-in-ring test (one ring resists or breaks), or a partner’s arm test (arm holds firm = yes, weakens = no).
  3. Ask: is there a trapped emotion to release now? Muscle-test for yes/no.
  4. Narrow it down with the Chart of Emotions. Test which column (A or B) and which row the emotion is in, halving the chart with yes/no questions until you land on one named emotion (e.g. “resentment,” “abandonment”).
  5. Get any needed detail. Test whether you need to know more — roughly when it arose, who/what it relates to — though Nelson says you usually don’t need the full story.
  6. Confirm it’s ready to release. Ask if anything else must be found first.
  7. Release with the magnet. Set the intention to release, then sweep a magnet (or your hand) down the governing meridian — forehead, over the crown, down the back of the neck/spine — 3 times for an ordinary trapped emotion, or 10 times for an “inherited” one.
  8. Re-test to confirm it’s gone, and repeat for the next emotion. Clearing a “Heart-Wall” means releasing the stack of emotions test-identified as forming it. (This is a faithful summary of Nelson’s taught steps; it is not a reproduction of his copyrighted chart or text.)

Dr. Bradley Nelson, a chiropractor and practitioner of applied kinesiology, published The Emotion Code in 2007 (later a bestseller, with a foreword-era endorsement push and a large online certification business).

It draws directly on applied kinesiology / muscle-testing (George Goodheart; John Diamond’s behavioral kinesiology), Traditional Chinese Medicine meridians, and the broader energy-psychology family (TFT/EFT).

It is distinct from tapping methods: it uses muscle-testing to name an emotion and a magnet (not tapping) to release it. A “Body Code” extends the same testing logic to many more categories.

Trusting muscle-test “answers” as objective. They reflect the tester’s expectations; never base medical, legal, or relationship decisions on them.

  • Believing the energy/magnet story literally. Any object (or your hand) “works” because the effect is in the ritual, not the magnetism.
  • Self-diagnosing illness as “trapped emotions.” This can delay real diagnosis and care — a serious error.
  • Over-claiming. Feeling lighter after naming a feeling is not proof that an energy ball left your body.
