Decrees & Invocations

To repeatedly speak aloud carefully worded, rhythmic prayers built on the name of God (‘I AM THAT I AM’) — decrees, invocations, and ‘rosaries’ — in order to invoke spiritual energy from the Ascended Masters and ‘transform’ negative energy and consciousness in oneself and the world.

Beginner 15–60+ min (often done daily, sometimes for hours) Channeled / New Thought–Theosophical
Decrees in 5 lines: (1) Pick a worded prayer for what you want to transform.

(2) Direct it to the source / masters.

(3) Speak it aloud, in steady rhythm, repeated (sometimes building in speed).

(4) Anchor on I AM THAT I AM / “I AM” statements.

(5) Do it consistently. Mechanically it’s vocal mantra + autosuggestion; the “transforming energy / Ascended Masters” claim is unsupported.

Decrees and invocations are spoken, rhythmic prayers built around the name of God — I AM THAT I AM — used to “call down” spiritual energy and transform unwanted states in oneself and the world. Kim Michaels teaches them as a core practice, writing many invocations and “rosaries” (e.g.

Mother Mary’s invocations) for personal and “world transformation.” A decree is a short, positive, carefully worded formula repeated aloud, often building in speed and intensity; an invocation or rosary is a longer scripted prayer interleaving affirmations with devotional passages.

The practitioner speaks them aloud, frequently daily and sometimes for long stretches, treating the spoken word as the active instrument.

  1. Choose a decree/invocation for the issue. Select (or use one of Michaels’ scripted) prayers targeting what you want to transform — fear, a habit, a relationship, a world condition.
  2. Centre and call to the source. Begin by directing the prayer to God / the Ascended Masters, asking for their help to see and overcome the issue (Michaels frames decreeing as calling to the masters to transform energy).
  3. Speak aloud, rhythmically. Recite the formula out loud in a steady, dynamic rhythm. Decrees are often repeated many times and may build in pace (“high-speed” decreeing). The voicing — not silent thinking — is treated as essential.
  4. Use the name of God / “I AM” anchor. The formulas centre on I AM THAT I AM and “I AM” statements, the same name-of-God affirmation core found across the I AM / New Thought lineage.
  5. Pair study with invocation. Michaels teaches a two-part rhythm: study a “dictation” (teaching) and then give a matching invocation — “raising awareness” and “transforming energy” as the two halves.
  6. Repeat consistently. The practice is cumulative and devotional; Michaels himself describes decreeing well over an hour a day for years, and group services lasting hours. (Faithful summary of the practice and its stated rationale; “decree,” “invocation,” “rosary,” and I AM THAT I AM are the tradition’s terms. Not a reproduction of copyrighted invocation text.)

Kim Michaels presents himself as a messenger for the Ascended Masters and has authored many books and online invocations/rosaries. His decree practice descends directly from the “I AM” Activity (Guy and Edna Ballard, 1930s) and The Summit Lighthouse / Church Universal and Triumphant (Mark and Elizabeth Clare Prophet), where rhythmic “dynamic decrees” to the Ascended Masters were central; Michaels lived near the Summit’s Montana headquarters and attended long decree services.

Behind that lies the broader Theosophical Ascended-Masters current and, structurally, the New Thought use of I AM affirmation. Within this library it sits alongside other name/affirmation-repetition practices (see cross-links).

Decreeing instead of acting. Spoken prayer is not a substitute for medical care, practical steps, or real-world responsibility.

  • Hyperventilating in “high-speed” sessions. Long, fast, loud decreeing can over-breathe you — keep the breath comfortable; slow down if light-headed.
  • Guilt accounting. Watch for the trap of “I haven’t decreed enough” — frequency-as-virtue can become anxious obligation.
  • Crediting outcomes to the masters. If you feel steadier or more focused, that’s attention/autosuggestion, not demonstrated energy transformation.
  • Losing the meaning. Rote speed can hollow the words; the affirmation works through engaged attention, not volume.
