Clarity of Being

Stop looking for awakening as a future attainment and instead notice that the aware presence you are seeking is already, effortlessly, the one looking — then rest as that recognition rather than as the seeker.

Clarity of Being: Stop reaching for awakening as a future thing. Turn attention toward the simple presence that is already aware of this moment. Notice it is effortless, here now, and is what you are — not the seeker. Rest as that for a few breaths, let everything arise within it, and re-recognize lightly and often. There is nothing to attain; only to notice.

“Clarity of Being” is Bentinho Massaro’s name for the direct-recognition core of his teaching: the claim that the awakeness you are seeking is not a future state to be earned but the very awareness already reading these words.

His signature move is to short-circuit the seeker. Most seeking, he argues, is a subtle “me” trying to get somewhere — more peace, more presence, enlightenment — and the trying itself sustains the sense of lack.

The practice is to turn attention back on the one who is looking and notice that bare, knowing presence is already here, already free, and already what you are — so there is, in this instant, nothing to attain and nowhere to go.

You then rest as that simple awareness rather than as the anxious seeker. Where his manifestation material gets elaborate, this piece is deliberately minimal: recognize, relax, repeat. It operationalizes the deeper Self beneath the ego (The Inner Creates the Outer), the recognition that the seeker is what they seek (All Is One), and the present moment as the only point of power (The Inner Creates the Outer).

A faithful rendering of Massaro’s recognition pointing (paraphrase plus short attributed phrases):

  1. Stop reaching for an experience. Notice that you are, right now, trying to get something — calm, clarity, awakening. Drop the reach for a moment. There is nothing to produce.
  2. Turn toward the one who is aware. Instead of looking at thoughts, feelings, or the world, gently notice the simple fact that experience is being known. Something here is aware. Look toward that knowing presence, not at any object.
  3. Notice it is already effortless and already here. This awareness is not something you switch on; it is already operating, prior to any effort. Massaro points to it as a “pre-existing peace” or freedom that does not need to be built — only recognized.
  4. See that this is what you are. The presence that is aware of the seeker is closer than the seeker. You are not the contracted “me” trying to wake up; you are the open awareness in which that “me” appears. Let identity relax from the seeker into the awareness.
  5. Rest as that — briefly. Stay as simple aware presence for a few breaths. Let thoughts and sensations arise and pass within it without re-gripping as a separate self that has to fix anything.
  6. Re-recognize, lightly and often. When you notice you have collapsed back into seeking, simply turn and recognize again. The practice is many small recognitions, not one grand event. (Sourcing note: “Clarity of Being,” the seeker-collapse, and “pre-existing” freedom are Massaro’s framing, attributed; the steps paraphrase his guided recognition sessions rather than reproducing them verbatim.)

Bentinho Massaro (b. 1988) is a Dutch-born contemporary teacher who built an explicit synthesis of nondual awakening and reality creation; “Clarity of Being” is the awakening-recognition layer of that system, taught through his Trinfinity Academy material and guided sessions in the early-to-mid 2010s.

The pointer itself sits in the broad Advaita / “sudden” pointing-out lineage — recognizing awareness as one’s nature rather than cultivating it gradually — restated in plain, empowerment-flavoured Western language.

The move — turn attention back on the awareness that is already present and recognize it as what you are — is the common heart of direct-path nonduality. Massaro’s signature is the explicit collapse of the seeker (“you already are it, so stop trying to get it”) fused with an empowerment tone: - Being aware of being aware (Rupert Spira) — rest attention in awareness itself rather than its objects.

  • Unhook local awareness / the glimpse (Loch Kelly) — a small gesture of unhooking attention so awareness knows itself.
  • Unfindable inquiry (Scott Kiloby) — look directly for the separate self and find it unlocatable.
  • True meditation / allowing (Adyashanti) — let everything be as it is and notice the aware space already present.
  • Who am I? (Ramana, via self-inquiry) — trace the “I”-thought back to its source.

Looking for a special experience. Awareness is ordinary and already here; if you are hunting for a flash or a “blissed-out” state, you have turned recognition back into seeking.

  • Trying hard to “stop the seeker.” Effortfully fighting the seeking-self is just more seeking. Notice it gently; the recognition is a relaxation, not a battle.
  • Turning the insight into a new belief. “I am awareness” repeated as a slogan is not the recognition. The point is the actual, present noticing.
  • Spiritual bypassing. Using “there’s no separate self / nothing to fix” to dodge real emotions, responsibilities, or problems is a misuse.
  • Refinement: anchor brief re-recognitions to daily cues (unlocking a phone, a doorway) so they thread through the day rather than depending on one long sit.
