Science-of-Living Treatment
Work a short New Thought ‘treatment’ on a chosen good: relax, affirm the good as already true and present, and give thanks for it as received.
Sit, relax, and let go of the anxious grip. Name your good, affirm it as already true and present, and let yourself feel the assurance of having it. Close in genuine thanks — “it is done” — then release it and act on the next real step. The treatment settles and motivates you; it is not a delivery service, and it never requires giving anyone money.
What it is
This is Reverend Ike’s adaptation of the standard New Thought “treatment” — a short, structured mental session worked on a specific desired good (money, a healing, an opportunity, peace of mind).
Following the Quimby–Holmes–Fox treatment pattern but in his confident “Science of Living” key, the practice is to relax, affirm the good as already true and present, and give thanks for it as received — closing in the felt assurance of having, not the strain of wanting.
Where ike visualize your good works in images and ike thinkonomics self image works on the self-concept, the treatment is a complete little ritual that combines settling down, declaring, feeling, and thanking into one sitting.
The Method
- Relax and settle. Sit quietly, let the body soften, and drop the anxious grip on the problem. The receptive, released state matters (The Inner Creates the Outer).
- Name the good clearly. State exactly what you are treating for — a definite sum, a specific condition healed, a particular opening.
- Affirm it as already true. Speak it in the present, as accomplished: not “may I get” but “this good is mine; it is so now.” Move from petition to declaration (The Inner Creates the Outer/The Inner Creates the Outer).
- Feel it as real. Let the assurance and satisfaction of having it be present in the body, not just spoken — the feeling carries the affirmation (The Inner Creates the Outer).
- Give thanks as for something received. Close in gratitude — “thank you, it is done” — which seals the treatment in the assumption of having rather than lacking.
- Release and go about your day. Let go of the outcome and act on whatever steps present themselves; the held grip undoes the work (The Inner Creates the Outer).
Source & Lineage
Reverend Ike (Frederick J. Eikerenkoetter II), “Science of Living” teachings and broadcasts, applying the New Thought treatment form to his prosperity message (“you can’t lose with the stuff I use”; “see it, feel it, believe it”).
The relax–affirm–give-thanks structure descends directly from Quimby’s silent treatment, Emma Curtis Hopkins, Ernest Holmes’s spiritual mind treatment, and Emmet Fox’s scientific prayer, restated in Ike’s plainer, prosperity-forward style.
Common refinements
Treating instead of acting. A treatment is a warm-up for action, not a replacement. Follow it with a concrete step.
- Straining to “make it true.” The form depends on relaxation and release; effortful clenching defeats it. Affirm gently, then let go.
- Skipping the thanks. The gratitude close is what shifts you from lack to having; don’t drop it.
- Coupling it to giving money. Ike’s ministry tied prosperity practice to donations. This treatment needs nothing of the kind — keep it free of any giving-to-get bargain.
