Affirmation · “The Subconscious Says Yes”
Programming Your Mind for Success
Deliberately overwrite entrepreneurial self-doubt by intercepting negative self-talk, choosing the identity the goal requires, and repeatedly feeding the mind the desired self-image through affirmation and visualization.
Green’s mind-programming: (1) Decide exactly what you want.
(2) Know why it matters.
(3) Decide who you must become.
(4) Catch the inner critic the moment it speaks.
(5) Refuse it and swap in an empowering thought.
(6) Reinforce the new self-image daily with affirmation and visualization — then act.
What it is
This is Carrie Green’s core mindset practice for entrepreneurs: treating the mind as something you can deliberately program toward the goal, rather than letting unexamined self-doubt run the business.
Where the generic affirmation entries teach the principle of repeated self-statement, Green’s version is entrepreneur-applied and doubt-first: its distinctive move is to catch the inner critic in the act (“who is going to come to this website?”), refuse it, and replace it — while also deciding what you want, why, and what kind of person you need to become to make it happen. It bridges self-help affirmation and practical business confidence.
The Method
Green’s sequence, faithfully:
- Decide what you want. Get clear and specific: “I started by thinking about what do I actually want?”
- Know your why. Anchor it in meaning: “why I wanted to achieve it, why it actually meant something to me.”
- Decide who you need to become. “I had to figure out the kind of person that I needed to become in order to make it happen” — then begin acting and thinking as that person.
- Catch the inner voice. Notice automatic doubt as it arises: “Whenever I catch myself thinking something like, ‘Carrie, who is going to come to this website?’. I would stop myself.” Realize “I had the power to take control over my thoughts.”
- Refuse and replace. Tell the doubt to “shut up” and substitute an empowering, goal-aligned thought in its place.
- Reinforce daily. Feed the desired self-image through affirmations and guided visualization “to program my subconscious mind for success,” repeated consistently. (Sourcing note: quoted phrases are from Green’s TEDxManchester talk and She Means Business, short fair-use quotation.)
Source & Lineage
Carrie Green, She Means Business (2017) and her TEDxManchester talk “Programming Your Mind for Success.” The practice draws openly on the success/self-help lineage — Napoleon Hill’s auto-suggestion and definite aim, law-of-attraction visualization — re-expressed for a women’s-entrepreneur audience.
Common refinements
Affirming without acting. Green’s whole context is building a business — the mindset work is to keep you in action, not to replace it.
- Suppressing doubt instead of replacing it. “Shut up” works only if you install a better, believable thought; bare suppression rebounds.
- Skipping the “who do I need to become” step. This is what makes it identity work rather than wishful repetition.
- Ignoring real risks. Confidence is not due diligence; test assumptions and address genuine business risks honestly.
