BSFF (Be Set Free Fast)

To clear an uncomfortable feeling, limiting belief or self-sabotaging program by giving the subconscious a one-time set of instructions, then simply saying a chosen ‘cue word’ to trigger it to run the whole elimination (‘treatment’) automatically.

Beginner 1–5 min per issue (after a one-time setup) Energy Medicine / Energy Psychology
BSFF in 5 lines: Once, read a set of instructions to your subconscious telling it that your cue word will eliminate problems. Pick a neutral cue word (“peace,” “now”). Focus on a feeling, belief, or memory you want cleared. Say the cue word to “run” the treatment; notice the shift, and repeat on any underlying beliefs/roots, then a closing/forgiveness step. The cue triggers self-suggestion, not literal subconscious automation — treat it as an attention/expectancy ritual, never a substitute for care.

BSFF is a streamlined energy-psychology self-help method by psychologist Dr. Larry Nims. It started as a tapping protocol but Nims later removed the tapping altogether.

Its signature move: you give your subconscious mind a one-time set of instructions that, from then on, whenever you say a chosen cue word (e.g. “peace,” “now,” any neutral word), it will run the entire “treatment” sequence for you — locating and “eliminating” the emotional charge, limiting belief, or self-sabotaging program attached to whatever you’re focused on.

In Nims’s model, problems persist because of a mismatch between what the conscious mind wants and what the subconscious has been “programmed” to allow; BSFF is framed as a fast way to instruct the subconscious to clear that programming.

From Nims’s BSFF manual and teaching:

  1. One-time setup (read the instructions to your subconscious). Once, you slowly read/state a prepared set of instructions to your subconscious, telling it that from now on, when you use your cue word, it will completely eliminate the named problem and all its “roots,” beliefs, and related programs. This first setup can take a while.
  2. Choose a cue word. Pick a word or short phrase with no strong emotional charge (so it’s a clean trigger), e.g. “peace,” “clear,” “now.”
  3. Focus on the issue. Tune into the uncomfortable feeling, belief, memory, or behaviour you want to clear; rate its intensity if you like.
  4. Say the cue word. Saying (or thinking) the cue word is the “treatment” — it instructs the subconscious to run the full elimination sequence on what you’re focused on.
  5. Notice the shift and re-check. Notice the charge drop; Nims uses “energy testing” (muscle-testing) to check whether the issue is “clear” and whether anything underlying (“roots,” beliefs) remains.
  6. Clear the roots / beliefs. Repeat the cue word on any remaining layers, underlying beliefs, or “psychological reversals,” until it tests clear.
  7. Closing/forgiveness sequence. Nims includes a closing step (often forgiveness-oriented) to complete the work. With practice, an experienced user can run a problem start-to-finish in just a few minutes. (This is a faithful summary of BSFF’s structure — one-time setup, cue word, elimination, energy-test, closing — not a reproduction of Nims’s copyrighted instructions.)

Dr. Larry Nims (psychologist; d. 2017) developed BSFF in the 1990s out of his work with Roger Callahan’s Thought Field Therapy and the wider tapping/energy-psychology field.

His innovation was to collapse the tapping algorithm into a single cue word, on the theory that the subconscious, once instructed, can perform the sequence without the physical steps. BSFF therefore sits alongside other energy-psychology methods in this library — TFT, EFT, TAT — but is distinctive for being tapping-free and built on a cue-word/subconscious-instruction premise. The auto-suggestion flavour echoes Coué-style autosuggestion.

Trusting muscle/energy-test “answers.” They track your expectations, not facts — never base real decisions on them.

  • Treating the cue word as automatic clearing. It’s a self-suggestion cue; relief comes from attention and expectancy, so engage honestly rather than expecting magic.
  • Skipping the actual feeling. Briefly facing the emotion (not just zapping it) is what gives exposure/relief its value.
  • Using it on serious trauma alone. Get qualified help for real trauma rather than self-clearing heavy material.
