Working With a Money Block

Find the specific scarcity belief running underneath your relationship with money, release its emotional charge, reframe the belief, and assume a new money-identity — honestly, without guru promises, and without pretending inner work replaces financial competence.

Intermediate A 2-week core process (~30 min/day), then ongoing maintenance

For anyone who senses their relationship with money is being run by something underneath the spreadsheet — a flinch when they check the balance, a refusal to charge what they’re worth, a strange ceiling they keep hitting, a quiet conviction that “people like me don’t have money” or “wanting it is greedy.” This recipe is deliberately non-guru: it will not tell you to “raise your vibration and the money appears.” It will help you find the specific scarcity belief you’re carrying, take the charge out of it, reframe it, and step into a steadier money-identity — so your financial behavior changes. The honest mechanism is that one: inner work that frees you to act differently with money. The action still has to happen.

Most “money mindset” work fails because it slaps affirmations on top of an un-cleared wound. The block is usually (a) a belief learned young, (b) carrying real emotional charge, and (c) defended by a part of you that thinks the belief keeps you safe. So you work it in that order:

  1. Find it (parts + shadow). [Parts work / IFS](./inquiry shadow/parts work and [shadow work](./inquiry shadow/shadow locate the actual belief and the part protecting it — instead of guessing.
  2. Release the charge (EFT / Sedona). You can’t reason with a belief that’s still emotionally hot. [EFT tapping](./surrender release/eft and the [Sedona Method](./surrender release/sedona discharge the anxiety, shame, or resentment around money so the belief becomes workable.
  3. Reframe (The Work). [Byron Katie’s Work](./inquiry shadow/the work byron breaks the old belief’s status as unquestionable fact and opens truer alternatives.
  4. Re-assume (SATS + acting as if). Only now do you install and behave the new money-identity ([SATS](./imagination assumption/sats state akin to, [acting as if](./embodiment state/acting as) — on cleared ground, so it actually holds. Find → release → reframe → re-assume. Affirmations before clearing is why most attempts bounce.

Phase 1 — Find the block (Days 1–3)

Locate the belief (Day 1, ~30 min). ([Shadow work](./inquiry shadow/shadow.) Complete these sentences fast, without editing: “Money is _.” “People with money are _.” “If I had a lot of money, I’d be _ / people would think _.” “In my family, money meant _.” “I can’t charge more because _.” Your block is usually hiding in the most reflexive answers. Circle the belief with the most heat. Meet the part that holds it (Days 2–3, ~25 min). ([Parts work / IFS](./inquiry shadow/parts work.) Find the part of you invested in the scarcity belief and ask it, with curiosity not war: What are you afraid would happen if I let this go? What are you protecting me from? (Common answers: “If you want money you’ll be rejected / become greedy / get your hopes crushed / betray where you came from.”) You’re not trying to evict the part — you’re understanding its positive intent (All Is One). This is what stops the belief snapping back later. ### Phase 2 — Release the charge (Days 4–8) EFT on the money fear (alternating days, ~15 min). ([EFT tapping](./surrender release/eft.) Tap through the points while voicing the actual feeling: “Even though I feel sick when I look at my bank account / I’m scared I’ll always struggle / I feel guilty wanting more — I deeply accept myself.” Rate the distress 0–10 before and after; work it down. Sedona releasing on the same material (alternating days, ~15 min). ([Sedona Method](./surrender release/sedona.) Bring up the money feeling and run the releasing questions — Could I let this go? Would I? When? — on the wanting, the fear, and especially the resistance to money. Sedona is particularly good for the subtle grip of “wanting from lack.” ### Phase 3 — Reframe (Days 9–11) The Work on the core belief (~25 min/session). ([The Work — Byron Katie](./inquiry shadow/the work byron.) Take your hottest money belief (“I’ll never have enough,” “rich people are corrupt,” “I’m bad with money”) through the four questions and the turnarounds. The aim isn’t to force a sunny opposite — it’s to see that the belief is a thought, not a law, and to find the equally-or-more-true reframe you can actually stand behind. ### Phase 4 — Re-assume the new money-identity (Days 12–14, then ongoing) Define & install (~20 min/day). ([SATS](./imagination assumption/sats state akin to, [Acting as if](./embodiment state/acting as.) Write the new money-identity in believable-adjacent terms (“I am someone who looks at my finances calmly and makes clear decisions”; “I am learning to receive and to charge fairly”). Each night, run a short SATS scene that implies it’s already true (opening the banking app without a flinch; naming your real price easily). Each day, take one aligned financial action as that person — this is the load-bearing step: check the balance you’ve been avoiding, send the invoice, ask about the raise, set up the small automatic transfer, raise the price.

What this reliably does: reduces the anxiety, shame, and avoidance that distort money behavior; surfaces and softens a belief you didn’t know was steering you; and makes it psychologically possible to do the financial actions you’ve been flinching from. That’s substantial — most money self-sabotage is emotional, not informational.

  • What it absolutely does not do: make money appear through belief alone. There is no honest version of this work where clearing a block deposits funds. The real chain is cleared block → changed financial behavior → changed outcomes over time (The Inner Creates the Outer, The Inner Creates the Outer). If a “money manifestation” pitch skips the behavior step, it’s selling magic. The Atlas won’t.
  • Inner work is necessary but not sufficient. A freed-up relationship with money still has to meet real-world levers: earning, pricing, negotiating, saving, investing, getting out of debt. This recipe handles the inner obstacle; it does not replace financial competence or, where needed, professional financial advice.
  • Expect uneven progress. Some beliefs release in a session; others are tied to family and worth and take repeated cycles. Judge it by whether your money behavior is loosening — checking the balance, charging fairly, acting instead of freezing.

Low-to-moderate care. Money is wired to family, worth, survival, and shame, so this work can open more than expected — go gently, and if a session surfaces something heavy (trauma, deep shame, despair), pause and talk to a therapist. Two firm boundaries:

  • This is not financial advice. It is mindset and emotional work. For debt, budgeting, taxes, or investing, see a qualified financial professional or a reputable nonprofit debt advisor.
  • If money stress is acute — you can’t meet basic needs, you’re in a debt crisis — practical help comes first. Inner work is a poor substitute for income, a payment plan, or emergency support, and using it to avoid taking real action is a trap, not a practice. Do the practical and the inner work together.
