What it was
Unity (originally the Unity School of Christianity) was founded in Kansas City in 1889 by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore after Myrtle healed herself of tuberculosis through affirmative prayer.
Building on Emma Curtis Hopkins’s teaching, Unity blended practical Christianity with New Thought metaphysics — the creative power of thought, denial-and-affirmation, and the indwelling divine. Its Silent Unity prayer ministry and Daily Word magazine reached millions.
Its place in the lineage
Unity is the most enduring institution of the New Thought lineage — the organised home of the same mind-power principles taught across this Atlas’s New Thought figures.
