What it was
Wilhelm Reich founded the Orgone Institute in the early 1940s to research what he called orgone energy — a cosmic life-force he attempted to accumulate and measure.
The work ended amid US government prosecution and the burning of his books before his death in 1957, but it influenced later body-psychotherapy and energy-based practice.
Its place in the lineage
An early, ill-fated attempt to put the life-energy of the esoteric traditions on a laboratory footing — a forerunner of somatic and energy psychology.
