What it was
Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences in 1973 after a transformative experience returning from the Moon, to investigate consciousness, intuition and the mind-matter relationship with scientific rigour.
Led by figures such as Willis Harman and researcher Dean Radin, IONS became a hub for serious parapsychology and consciousness studies.
Its place in the lineage
The empirical, laboratory wing of the consciousness lineage — testing the inner claims of the mystics, alongside Esalen and the Monroe Institute.
