What it was
The modern Gnostic Movement was founded in the 1950s in Latin America by Samael Aun Weor (Víctor Manuel Gómez Rodríguez), who synthesised Gnostic Christianity, Kabbalah, Tantra, alchemy and Theosophical-Rosicrucian ideas into a system of self-realisation through “death of the ego.” After his death the movement splintered into many independent schools across the Spanish-speaking world and beyond.
Its place in the lineage
An umbrella of related schools rather than one body, the Gnostic Movement is a late, syncretic heir of the Rosicrucian and Theosophical currents.
